Facing the Many Headed Dragon Together – Emotion Focused Therapy for Couples and Complex Trauma

Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT) is a couple intervention that is ideally suited to addressing relationship distress in couples facing PTSD and Complex PTSD. The focus on actively processing and integrating emotion, revising negative models of self, and creating secure bonding interactions make this approach an “on target” intervention for such couples. The safe haven and secure base offered by responsive love relationships is the ideal healing environment for those wounded by trauma. EFT has been empirically validated in general and with traumatized couples. This workshop will include observation of DVD’s and experiential exercises.

Breaking Through Toxic Relationship Patterns

Friday, December 3, 2010, 9:00 am – 3:30 pm

1 day Workshop (5 CE credits)

Presenter: Michael Barnett, LPC
Location: UPS Corporate Offices, 55 Glenlake Parkway NE, Atlanta, GA 30328

Breaking Through Toxic Relationship Patterns: The Art, Heart and Science of Emotionally Focused Couple’s Therapy

Couple’s (and couple’s therapists) often over-focus on the content surrounding conflict and therefore may ignore the powerful forces that trap partners into habitual negative patterns with each other. Over time, these patterns erode trust, and connection in relationships, sometimes irreparably. This workshop offers ways of identifying these patterns, understanding the forces that drive and define them, as well as how to intervene effectively so that couples may experience trust and closeness once again.
