Residency Toward Licensure Position Available (Nonpaying)

Metropolitan Counseling Services (MCS) is a non-profit, tax exempt 501(c)(3) low cost psychotherapy center and training institute. MCS is committed to providing high quality, long-term psychotherapy to the general public, and providing supportive and intensive psychotherapy training to qualified resident candidates.

Requirements for Residency

  • Master’s or Doctoral degree in counseling, psychology, psychiatric nursing or social work.
  • Previous experience with individual therapy in a hospital, agency, or practice setting
  • Able to provide both personal and professional references
  • One year commitment with the option to renew contract for up to three years.
  • A minimum of 10 client contact hours per week, which can be flexibly scheduled.
  • Additional record-keeping hours as needed, plus 6 hours of marketing per month.
  • Attendance at monthly administrative meetings (Wednesday, 12:00 – 1:00)
  • Attendance at monthly inservice trainings (Wednesday, 12:00 – 1:00)
  • Attendance at monthly group supervision (Wednesday, 1:00 – 2:45)
  • Attendance at weekly individual supervision, to be flexibly scheduled with supervisor.
  • Telephone duty and rotation coverage of emergency call (no pager required).
